Tulum Weekend Getaway

Desperate to escape the cold and the mundanity of the long winter commutes and routine - a short and sweet trip to Tulum was just what my soul needed.

Read on for my perfect weekend getaway activities.

TULUM BEACH ROAD

This is where you wanna explore for all the boho restaurants, beach clubs and boutiques. Rent a bike from the many bike and sports equipment rental shops and ride along the long stretch of Tulum Beach Road.

VEN A LA LUZ

The famous 35 ft tall towering wooden structure from artist, Daniel Popper, can be seen by entering an “art park” off of Tulum Beach Road. Art park is in quotations because it is literally the only piece of art in this small square of a makeshift park. Cash payment is required to see the sculpture. Go early as there was a long line up when I left and they only permit about 1 min per person for photos.

FOLLOW THAT DREAM SIGN

One of the most instagrammed road sign I’m sure is found on Tulum Beach Road. Just follow that dream road to Lolita and Lolita boutique and you will come upon it.

AZULIK UH MAY, CITY OF ARTS

This gorgeous City of Arts, located in the middle of the lush Mayan jungle, must not be missed. It’s located in the small town of Uh May, approximately 45 minutes from Tulum hotel zone by car. You are physically immersed into the art itself, the architect of nature and man made construct intertwine into a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere. Begin your journey with an ancient Mayan spiritual cleansing ceremony - rid of any negativity prior to entering the space and take in all the good vibrations it has to offer. Spend some time walking barefoot through every space, and sit and meditate. I’ve never seen such a unique art museum and left feeling happy and grateful.

EAT AND DRINK

LA ZEBRA - had the tastiest tacos and margaritas, not to mention the freshest ceviche. They make their tortillas and all spices and sauces in-house.

MATCHA MAMA - fresh and delicious smoothie bowls with tropical fruit toppings. Sit on their swings at their bar and people watch.

ILIOS - Greek and Mediterranean fare that turns into a bit of a party at night.

TACOS HONORIO - simple and affordable street side taco eatery.

ZIGGYS - beach club with bean bags, margaritas and nachos. Can’t think of a more chill place to spend the day.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

CENOTES - I wanted to visit Cenote Vesica as they have a cool, vibey beach club around a natural cenote. Unfortunately they were closed when I was there so that gives me a reason to return to Tulum. I’ve also done the Grande Cenote and Dos Ojos before. Highly recommend checking out these natural swimming holes if it’s your first time visiting Tulum.

TULUM RUINS - tour the gorgeous Mayan ruins site in Tulum and see how the ancients worshipped and lived. Swim in the public beach after and you may even see some sea turtles if you’re lucky. COBA is also near by for exploring as well.

YOGA - take a class or two at AMANSALA. Super clean living and dreamy yoga classes that take place in their giant palapas.

THE HAND - you can pay to enter HOTEL HUN TULUM to see and photograph the infamous hand. I didn’t feel particularly motivated so I’ll continue to enjoy others images of the Hand on the internet for now.
